Dr. Sylvie Doublié

Dr. Doublié is a structural biologist with a passion for cancer research. Her journey started at the University of Paris and took her to UNC Chapel where she received a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Biophysics. After two postdoctoral fellowships at the European Molecular Biology laboratory in Grenoble, France and Harvard Medical School, she joined the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at UVM in 1998. Her lab is interested in understanding how DNA, the blueprint of cells, is damaged and how it is repaired. This is important because when DNA damage is not repaired, it can generate mutations, which in turn can lead to cancer. Her lab is also interested in understanding how mutations in DNA repair genes might affect how a patient responds to cancer treatment. She has a keen interest in science education and is always looking for ways to spark interest in science and keep students in STEM fields.
